The sound installation Where We Hear Each Other explores emotional and psychological spaces within the constant noise of everyday life. Through an intimate and experimental approach, the work reflects on presence, pause, and confrontation in a world of escapism. The installation takes the form of sound poetry, shaped by a dialogue between sound and text.

Over the course of a month, the authors recorded short audio fragments with the intention of actively listening to their days. Inspired by this material, they enter intimate inner spaces where memories, associations, and thoughts shape texts that map the inner landscapes of a young person — their dilemmas, conflicts, dreams, fears, self-questionings, acts of listening, and acceptance.

Two intimate and collective sonic spaces unfold before the audience:

In Those Days Were Empty, Ordinary Days, sounds accumulate, press in, lose their meaning, and become noise. Come Closer is a space in which silence is recognized, listened to, and given meaning, a space Where We Hear Each Other.

 

Jana Baljak is a sound designer and artist based in Belgrade. Her work explores the relationship between sound, space, and perception. Her master’s project Remember, an audiovisual installation in virtual reality, marked the starting point of her ongoing research into sound as an element that shapes spatial experience. She works in sound design for theatre, live performances, film and interactive projects. As a member of the authorial team of the Serbian Student Section at the Prague Quadrennial 2023, she participated in the award-winning installation Daydreaming, and in 2024 she was a co-author and sound designer for the exhibition 100 Years of Surrealism at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade. She is currently pursuing doctoral artistic studies at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, where she is a research assistant and teaches at the Department of Sound Design.

Lora Džolić is a dramaturge and screenwriter from Belgrade. Through her work, she explores women’s coming-of-age experiences, complex family relationships, and violence in both its visible and hidden forms. Her plays have been staged in Belgrade and at international festivals, while her radio play Mila received the First Prize from Radio Belgrade. She is the recipient of the Josip Kulundžić Award and the Award for TV Project Development at the Pula Film Festival. She has worked on projects and programs for children and young audiences, creating television content that combines education and entertainment while fostering associative thinking. She is currently focused on researching contemporary theatrical language and diverse approaches that challenge traditional forms.

 

TALK: BETWEEN NOISE AND SILENCE

What does it mean to listen? How do we listen to one another? What does silence mean in a world whose noise is unbearable? How long does 16 minutes of silence last? What are the emotional and psychological spaces of growing up in contemporary society, in a time overwhelmed by information, pressures, and continuous sound? Is there a place where we truly hear each other?

SOUND WORKSHOP: ON LISTENING
28 – 29 March 2026

The workshop invites participants of diverse backgrounds to explore the relationship between listening, presence, and artistic creation through practical work and discussion. With the idea that the seemingly insignificant noise of everyday life is a potential carrier of meaning and inspiration, the focus will be on developing awareness of the moment, perception, and the way how active listening can influence the process of creating.

Each participant will, through a practical task, record sounds inside or outside the gallery space, after which the recordings will be randomly exchanged among participants in order to explore how meaning changes through personal interpretation.

The resulting sound recordings will become a starting point for different forms of expression – text, visual work, movement, or speech – opening a space for understanding the artistic process as a dialogue between the external world and inner experience.

Through joint analysis and discussion, we will consider how the environment influences artistic decisions and how listening shapes perception. Rather than focusing only on producing material, the workshop encourages active listening and explores the relationship between author, space, and moment.

Zvučnom instalacijom Tamo gde se čujemo autorke istražuju emotivne i psihološke prostore u sveopštoj buci svakodnevnice. Kroz intiman i eksperimentalan pristup, rad govori o prisutnosti, zastajanju i suočavanju u svetu eskapizma. Instalacija funkcioniše kao zvučna poezija, nastala kroz dijalog zvuka i teksta.

U periodu od mesec dana Jana Baljak i Lora Džolić beležile su kratke zvučne zapise, sa ciljem da aktivno slušaju svoje dane. Inspirisane snimljenim materijalom, odlazile su u svoje intimne svetove gde su kroz sećanja, asocijacije i misli nastajali tekstovi koji oslikavaju unutrašnje pejzaže mlade osobe: njene dileme, sukobe, snove, strahove, preispitivanja, osluškivanja, prihvatanja…

Pred publikom se otvaraju dva intimna i kolektivna zvučna prostora:

U prostoru pod nazivom Ti dani su bili prazni, obični dani, zvukovi su akumulirani, pritiskaju, gube značenje i postaju buka. Priđi bliže je prostor u kome je tišina prepoznata, saslušana i dobija smisao – Tamo gde se čujemo.

 

Jana Baljak je dizajnerka zvuka i umetnica iz Beograda. U svom radu istražuje odnos zvuka, prostora i percepcije. Master rad Seti se, realizovan kao audiovizuelna instalacija u virtuelnoj stvarnosti, predstavlja polazište njenog daljeg istraživanja zvuka kao elementa koji oblikuje prostorni doživljaj. Radi dizajn zvuka za pozorište, scenske događaje, film i interaktivne projekte. Kao članica autorskog tima Studentske sekcije Srbije na Praškom kvadrijenalu 2023. učestvovala je u nagrađenoj instalaciji Sanjaranje, a 2024. bila je koautorka i dizajnerka zvuka na izložbi 100 godina nadrealizma u Muzeju savremene umetnosti u Beogradu. Trenutno pohađa doktorske umetničke studije na Fakultetu dramskih umetnosti, gde je angažovana kao istraživač pripravnik, kao i u nastavi na Katedri za dizajn zvuka.

Lora Džolić je dramaturškinja i scenaristkinja iz Beograda. Kroz svoje radove, istražuje žensko odrastanje, složene porodične odnose i nasilje u njegovim vidljivim i skrivenim oblicima. Drame su joj izvođene u Beogradu i na međunarodnim festivalima, dok je radio drama Mila nagrađena prvom nagradom Radio Beograda. Dobitnica je nagrade Josip Kulundžić i nagrade za razvoj TV projekta na Pulskom filmskom festivalu. Radila je na projektima i emisijama namenjenim deci i mladima, stvarajući televizijski sadržaj koji spaja učenje i zabavu, te razvija asocijativno mišljenje. Trenutno se fokusira na istraživanje savremenog pozorišnog jezika i različitih pristupa koji preispituju tradicionalne forme.

 

RAZGOVOR: IZMEĐU BUKE I TIŠINE

Šta znači slušati? Kako slušamo jedini druge? Šta znači tišina u svetu čija buka je nesaslušljiva? Koliko traje 16 minuta tišine? Koji su to emocionalni i psihološki prostori odrastanja u savremenom društvu, u vremenu preplavljenom informacijama, pritiscima i neprekidnim zvukom? Postoji li mesto na kojem se zaista čujemo?

RADIONICA ZVUKA: O SLUŠANJU
28-29. mart 2026.

Radionica je namenjena učesnicima različitih interesovanja i iskustava koji žele da kroz praktičan rad i razgovor istraže odnos između slušanja, prisutnosti i umetničkog stvaranja.

Polazeći od ideje da zvuk naše svakodnevice nije samo sveopšta buka, već potencijalni nosilac značenja i inspiracije, fokus radionice je na razvijanju svesti o trenutku, sopstvenoj percepciji i načinima na koje aktivno slušanje može da utiče na proces nastanka umetničkog rada.

Svaki učesnik će kroz praktičan zadatak beležiti zvukove unutar ili izvan galerijskog prostora, nakon čega će se zvučni zapisi nasumično razmeniti među učesnicima, kako bismo zajedno istražili na koji način se značenje menja kroz ličnu interpretaciju.

Dobijeni zvučni zapisi postaće polazište za različite forme izraza – tekst, vizuelni rad, pokret ili govor. Time će se otvoriti prostor za razumevanje umetničkog procesa kao dijaloga između spoljašnjeg sveta i unutrašnjeg doživljaja.

Kroz zajedničku analizu i diskusiju razmatraće se kako okruženje utiče na umetničke odluke i na koji način slušanje oblikuje percepciju. Cilj radionice nije samo produkcija materijala, već razvijanje senzibiliteta slušanja i razumevanja umetničkog procesa kao odnosa između autora, prostora i trenutka.
